DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIBERAL AND LIBERTARIAN

LIBERALISM

 Liberal means who believe in freedom of individual and try to give space to individual that he can think, research, freedom of choice etc. A liberal individual is open minded who can give space to other’s thought also.



 

LIBERTARIANISM

Libertarianism is a political philosophy which define individual’s freedom into political sphere.

 

1) GOVERNMENT

Liberal – Liberal believe that there should be freedom for individual in state. Positive liberal gives the concept of welfare state which can protect individual. It should be centralized liberal don’t have any problem to state but it should be welfare state

Libertarian – Libertarian believe in decentralization of power in local bodies. They are in favor of freedom of individual which will possible in only decentralized state.

 

2) DEMOCRACY

Liberal – Their focus is only on individual’s freedom. They are satisfied with representative or elected democracy. In this democracy people receive more freedom and elect with their choice.

Libertarian – Libertarian believe that only direct democracy can give pure freedom to individual. Other form of democracy is not satisfied individual’s need.

 

3) RELIGION

Liberal - Most people are Agnostic and few are Atheists and Believers

Libertarian - Majority of the people are Atheists and few are Agnostic.

 

4) VIEWS ON MARRIAGE

Liberal - They recognize the social institution of Marriage

Libertarian - They recognize the concept of Mutual Partnership between the couples Instead of a Marriage.

 

5) NATIONAL IDENTITY

Liberal - They see the concept of Nationhood with a sense of pride.

Libertarian - They see the concept of Nationhood as a convenience for the betterment of the individual.

 

6) ECONOMY

Liberal - They support Free Market Economy and expect the State entities to act as a facilitator through laws enacted by the legislature. State can interfere in economy to give more profit to individual.

Libertarian - They support Free Market Economy and expect different Market entities to act as facilitators for fair practices. However, they may look for courts to arbitrate disputes without any government intervention.

 

7) AGRICULTURE

Liberal - They Believe in providing loans with nominal interest rates or interest Free loans to the individual farmers for farming with a flexible pay back offer.

Libertarian - They believe in investing in agriculture and expect in getting a share of Profits from the Agricultural output.

 

8) HEALTHCARE

Liberal - They believe in providing health care insurance to individuals at nominal prices even for Higher claims

Libertarian - They believe in providing interest free loans to the person to pay back the additional charges incurred for his or her medical treatment after exceeding the health insurance claims.

 

10) EDUCATION

Liberal - They believe in providing merit-based scholarship for students

Libertarian - They believe in giving interest free educational loans to meritorious students to be pay backed by them when they start earning.
