HOW DID THE USA BECOME THE NUMBER ONE SUPERPOWER OF THE WORLD?

The USA is a federal union of 50 states. This country is the superpower and hegemony on all states on the world directly or indirectly. Today’s world there are many nations we can call superpowers but we can’t deny that USA has more control especially economic control on all over the world. There some reasons or events that make USA only superpower.

UNITES STATES OF AMERICA

LARGE SIZE AND POPULATION

Mostly power of America comes from its size and population. It is one the largest countries on earth by population and area. For any country it’s very important to have vast area and human capital.

RICH RESOURCES

Only vast area is not enough for gain power it will give you fruit when it has rich resources. USA is very lucky country by nature that it has vast area with rich resources that make him powerful country. The living standard of common people in this country is very good because of these resources.

ISOLATED COUNTRY

USA is an isolated country. It didn’t face any major threats related to borders issues. Because of this it can easily concentrated on its development and enhance its livings.

GOT INDEPENDENCE TOO EARLY

On July 4,1776. The 13 American colonies severed their political connections to Great Britain. They got independence. Most of the countries that time was under the colonial rule of Great Britain or other countries. And these countries got independence mostly after second World War. USA make development with all fields in all those years and them came into arena as a powerful country. When all countries were busy in independence movements USA was busy to utilize its resources to make itself more powerful.

BECOME NEUTRAL IN THE MOST OF THE TIME IN WORLD WARS

As World War I burst in 1914 in Europe, President Woodrow Wilson formally proclaims the neutrality of United States. In 1917 USA enters into war. In World War II USA also live neutral till 1941. So, most of the time in both world wars USA was neural and it has less effect on USA than other countries who were in war that time. It helps USA to make itself more powerful.

WORLD WARS DEVASTATED GREAT POWERS IN EUROPE

For centuries, the world had been divided among several competing global powers. Most of these powers belongs to Europe. No one country had hope to become superpower in this system. World War I was the beginning of the end of this system. And after some time second world war make it worse. The destruction of the war and massive war debts absolutely devastated the economies of Great Powers except USA because it became neutral most of the time in these wars.

INDEPENDENCE OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

After Second World War most of the Asian and Latin American countries got independence. Great powers of Europe lose these colonies and resources from which they increased their powers. These countries which is called developing countries wants help to make development because in colonial rule they got exploited. Great powers of Europe unable to help them because they destroy their most of the economies in both world wars. So, these was only two powers USSR and USA from which they would be get help. These countries move to these superpowers. It makes USSR and USA both powerful countries.

DISINTEGRATION OF USSR

After the World Wars and the end of colonialism the global system changed. Now only two superpowers came into existence: The USA and the Soviet Union. Both had competing ideologies, competing interests in Europe and Asia. In 1991 the Soviet Union disintegrated. Now only USA got the name of Superpower.

 US HEGEMONY IN WORLD POLITICS

The end of Cold War left the US without any serious rival in the world. The era since then has been described as a period of US dominance or unipolar world and this is the beginning of the ‘New World Order’. US hegemony did not emerge in 1991 after integration of the Soviet Union but in the end of second world war in 1945 when it dropped atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Then in 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait and United Nations mandated the liberation of Kuwait by force. Many countries fought against Iraq and defeated it and this is called First Gulf War. The US military help these countries and receive money from them. Then on 19March 2003 the US launched its invasion of Iraq under the codename ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’. More than 40 other countries joined in the US led coalition of the willing after the UN refused to give its mandate to the invasion. These events help us to understand that how world politics works under US hegemony and it make USA More powerful.

CULTURAL HEGEMONY OF USA

It would be mistake to see US hegemony in purely military and economic terms without considering the ideological or the cultural dimension of US hegemony. All ideas of good life and personal success, most of the dreams of individuals and societies across the globe are dreams churned out by practices prevailing in America. In this sense America has the most powerful culture on earth. This attribute called the soft power, the ability to persuade rather than coerce. The clothes they wear and those brands which belong to America it will become a fashion and young men and women try to follows these in all over the world.

CONCLUSION

So, these are some reasons and events that make USA superpower countries in all over the world. We can’t deny that today’s world is multipolar but USA has their impression on all over the world directly or indirectly. No single power is anywhere near balancing the USA power. China is trying to become superpower and many time challenges to USA directly and indirectly. But most of countries in the world are already influenced by US military and culture.
